Patrick Cote injures knee in fight for the UFC Title. It is every athlete’s dream, to compete for the world title of their sport. For Patrick Cote, that dream became a reality. After years of ups and downs in his fight career, “The Predator” proved with decisive wins that he was ready and worthy of a chance at the Title against, in my opinion, the best fighter in the world today, Anderson Silva. Given very little chance by the rest of the fight world, Cote was confident in his skills and mental toughness. He entered the fight with nothing to lose and with the utmost confidence. Unfortunately, in this sport like many others, mental toughness is not always enough. As the fight began, Patrick took the fight to Silva right away. Having withstood some devastating attacks from the champion, and countering each one of those attacks with strikes of his own, Patrick proved to everyone that he would not be walked over, as many had predicted. Entering the 3rd round, a feat unmatched by any other versus the champion, Cote’s confidence seemed to be building. But a reoccurring knee injury would be his downfall, leaving the fight world obviously unsatisfied. Since the fight, speculation as to the probable outcome and comments on the champion’s performance have been littering MMA sites throughout the world. The consensus seems to be that Anderson Silva was not himself, how else could a fighter of Cote’s stature have given him such a hard time? In my opinion, Silva was not used to landing some vicious blows and seeing his opponent shake them off and respond with attacks of his own. Leben, Franklin, Henderson, Marquardt, every single one of them crumbled under those same strikes, Cote did not. When they got hit, you saw the fear in their eyes, Cote showed no such fear. Was Patrick winning the fight, no he wasn’t. But the fight wasn’t over, he was gaining momentum, and who knows what the outcome may have been had the injury gods not intervened. The UFC will not allow a rematch, not anytime soon anyway. But I am supremely confident that Patrick “The Predator” Cote will come back from this injury stronger than ever before and rise to the top of his division once again. Nabil Khatib loses a decision to Ryan Ford at Raw Combat event in Calgary, AB. Though displaying great heart and determination, Nabil was unable to deal with the constant pressure and attacks of is opponent, leading to a unanimous decision for his opponent.
