GAMMA Muay Thai student Marc-André Ranger recently left for Thailand in order to train at one of the world’s top Muay Thai schools, Fairtex, located in Bangplee. As a favour to his Muay Thai coach, Patrick Charron, he has agreed to keep a weekly blog in order to share some of this incredible experience.

Blog entry #1 (part 1)

Hey Pat...

I made it in one piece over here in Bangplee. A quiet town about 20 min from Bangkok. No bars, no beaches, no cinema...pure training. Today is Sunday so we are off for the day...well needed...even if I've been here for only 3 days.

Training is hardcore. We wake up at 6AM to go run/cardio for 30 min. Then we stretch and do some bag work until 7AM.

At 7AM training starts. I head in the ring for 5 x 4min rounds with my trainer Gott Fairtex. He's only 18yrs old with 70 fights and 2 wins at Lumpinee. His carreer got cut short after an elbow struck his right hand and broke most of the bones of his fingers. Now he's a full time trainer here at Fairtex Bangplee.

Between each round we do push ups. I must admit that training with you was a BIG leverage over here. Instead of starting with the basic stuff, Gott was "satisfied" of my style after gauging me at the first training. For the following ones, he taught me a lot of elbows and knee strikes. I now understand why Fairtex is well recognized for its killer kicks. For each punch I was throwing during pad work, I must have landed about 10-15 kicks.

After pads, we head to the bags for another set of rounds. First I throw 20 kicks from each leg as fast as possible. A KILLER...then 50 knees, then 1 round of shadow with 10lbs in each hands.

After that I go to the sit up machines for a series of 100. For the 50 first ones, he takes my gloves and punches me in the plexus...

Shitt breakfast time...be back

Take care
